Why should we practice tongue cleaning?
After voiding our urges, most of us proceed to brushing our teeth. You must have noticed a white coating on your tongue- a sign of ama or undigested metabolic waste. Half of our oral bacteria that cause bad breath and cavities live on and around the crevices of the tongue. Research has concluded that tongue scraping is more effective than a toothbrush at removing these harmful bacteria and toxins.
AYURVEDA ORAL CARE
Ayurveda clearly mentions cleaning the tongue by Jihwa prakshalana or tongue scraping, even before drinking water, lest it be reabsorbed while eating or drinking. This practice eliminates the bacteria which causes bad breath and un earths the taste buds to achieve a better digestive strength.According to ancient Ayurvedic text, the Charaka Samhita, tongue scrapers should be made using unalloyed metals such as gold, silver or copper. Tongue scraping has been practised since centuries in India, Europe and Africa. Times have changed and effectiveness of tongue cleaning has now been appreciated by the scientific community and is recommended to be included in our daily routine.
Why use copper for making tongue cleaners?
Copper is one of the earliest metals mined and worked by humans. It is considered an auspicious metal in Hindu ism and was used in many religious rituals. Drinking water which is stored overnight in a copper vessel helps balance tridoshas according to Ayurveda.
Copper has been used for centuries because of its antibacterial properties and is perfect for making tongue cleaners, as they get rid of the bad bacteria and also provide important enzymes that help the good microbes to survive. They are also a more sustainable option than plastic scrapers, as they last for years, if properly maintained. Even if you have to discard your copper tongue cleaner, 95% of copper can be recycled, that means it will not end up in a landfill and damage the environment like a plastic scraper.
Sutraveda Copper Tongue Cleaner is handcrafted from 100% pure copper, which helps promote oral hygiene and fresh breath because of its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.
