The use of Kalmegh can be traced back to thousands of years ago when there was a tribe called Kirata in the Himalayan region. The sages of those times noticed this herb being used by the tribe extensively. Thus, they named it ‘Kirata tikta’ in Sanskrit, which means the bitter herb used by the Kirata tribe (Tikta is bitter in Sanskrit). The King of Bitters is also famous by the name ‘Bhunimba’, meaning the neem of the earth, signifying its similarity in bitter taste to Neem leaves.

Inspired by the Ancient
Art Form Kathakali
Kathakali is a musical drama art-form originating from Kerala, India. This ancient folk dance will mystify you through its spiritual cultivation as it has been preformed for centuries by native tribes. The performers use elaborate make up and colorful attires to perform all night long plays. The actors speak a sign language, where the word part of the character's dialogue is expressed through hand signs (mudras), while emotions and mood is expressed through facial and eye movements. These plays were one of the many ways to preserve and translate the philosophies of Ayurveda through story telling for the people. At Organic Ayurveda, we are committed to preserving these rare and sacred traditional art-forms.
